At the end of September 2013 we went back to the USA. This time to Charlotte, because we were planning a tour of the Carolina states with a detour to Georgia. I was traveling with a friend who lived there for a while in his youth and I have to admit that the region would not have occurred to me for a vacation otherwise.

But I was proven wrong. I particularly liked the cities on the coast (Savannah - here Forest Gump reads from his box of chocolates and Charleston), the swamps and of course the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We used the book Backroads of North Carolina to plan part of the route.
