The East Coast of Oahu

We set off again around nine to explore the island and to lie out in the sun for a bit. We head east, with Kailua Bay as our first destination. Even on the way there, we see quite a bit of the beautiful island: Diamond Head, Halona Blowhole (not really blowing very hard), and Hanauma Bay, which we’ll visit on another day.
We find Kailua Beach—though it’s hard to access due to construction - and it really is stunning, just as the guidebook described. I’ll give my verdict: the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen so far. As the day goes on, however, it turns out that other beaches are giving this one a run for its money (e.g., Waimea Bay Beach). After staying for about two hours, we are surprised by rain and decide to take this as an opportunity to continue exploring the island toward the north. Our destination is the North Shore, Turtle Bay, and then the coastal road further toward Hale’Iwa.
On the way there, we see more beautiful beaches, as the road runs right along the water. But it’s not just the beaches that are stunning—the lava mountains are just as impressive. Covered in greenery and rising up out of nowhere, they create a striking contrast against the dark clouds. Unfortunately, we can’t drive any closer to the mountains, as there are no roads leading directly into them.
