Los Angeles

We get up early and head first toward Bel Air & Beverly Hills on Sunset Boulevard. We see the same thing here that we saw the day before in Malibu: lots and lots of large driveways with even bigger gates in front of them, and virtually no way to see inside the owners’ estates. Everything is fenced off, but the streets and driveways alone are a sight to behold. German luxury cars dominate the streetscape here as well.

Our urge to explore is halted by a road bike race that prevents us from proceeding further down Sunset Boulevard and also leaves us with no way to reach the other side of this neighborhood. We’re stuck in traffic for a long time and find it hard to appreciate the beautiful sporting event, since all the streets are gridlocked and we have very few options for turning off anywhere… let alone heading where we’d like to go.

  • Rodeo Drive
  • Finding our way around the streets
  • Shopping, Beverly Plaza
  • Venice Beach in the evening … lots of volleyball courts, the beach is super wide
  • Hard to find a place to stay, many places are fully booked
  • Travelodge, more expensive, but very good
