Mammoth Cave, Corvette Museum & Nashville

The weekend is coming up and we plan to spend it in Nashville. On the way there, we will visit Mammoth Cave National Park and the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. The total distance is about 200 mi (320 km).

Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave National Park is located in central Kentucky, about a 1.5-hour drive south of Louisville. We booked the Historic Tour at 12:45 p.m. With a mapped length of approximately 663 km, Mammoth Cave is the most extensive known cave in the world. The tour begins with a short walk through the forest to the cave entrance. Inside the cave, the paths are sometimes as wide as roads and sometimes so narrow and low that you can only move forward by crouching down. We are accompanied by park rangers, who tell us about the history and discovery of the caves. The entire tour lasts about 2 hours.

Once we have adjusted to the daylight again, we proceed directly to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green (travel time approx. 30 minutes).

Corvette Museum

The National Corvette Museum is located directly on Interstate 65, and we must hurry as it is only open until 5 p.m. We have a little over an hour, so let us proceed.

The museum gained notoriety on February 12, 2014, when a huge crater opened up in the large exhibition hall at night, engulfing various exhibits.

Shortly after 5 p.m., we leave the museum, effectively closing it for the day. An hour was enough time for us. If you're a Corvette fan, it might be different. Overall, the museum cannot be compared to the large automotive worlds of German manufacturers, as it is “only” about one model, but if you're in the area, you should stop by—after all, the Corvette is the American sports car.

Now we continue on to Nashville. We have a good hour's drive ahead of us.

Nashville

MWe reach Nashville at dusk. We look for a parking space downtown and end up right in the middle of the city's “Saturday night life.” Unlike in Germany, this starts right after sunset. Around 8 p.m., Broadway is filled with crowds of people and the drinking is in full swing. There's a party atmosphere everywhere you look and, of course, live music in the bars. So we enjoy the hustle and bustle, grab something to eat, and drive to the hotel around 10 p.m.
