Florida Itinerary
Following our 5-day stay in New York, we embarked on an 11-day (September 7–18, 2006) road trip starting in Orlando, heading "down" the Gulf Coast to Key West and then "back up" the Atlantic Coast.
Flight from New York to Orlando
Since our flight from New York was delayed, we can’t land in Orlando right now because the weather there is too bad. So we’re landing in Melbourne, about 60 miles / 95 km southeast of Orlando. After a layover of about 45 minutes, we’ll continue on to Orlando, where it’s still raining (around 5:00 p.m.).
Then we pick up our car, a Chrysler Town & Country (known as the Chrysler Voyager in Germany). Since we need room for our luggage, we want to remove the third row of seats and leave it with the rental company, but they “can’t” do that. So, whether we like it or not, we take the larger version of the Chrysler, where the bench seat can be lowered into the floor, and pay an extra $10 per day for it. Since picking up the car took longer than expected, it’s already starting to get dark.
Unfortunately, the mobile navigation system isn't working as expected because we forgot to download a map to the device. After a bit of back-and-forth, however, we manage to find our hotel (Days Inn) in Orlando and arrive there around 10 p.m.
